Blue Waters Mountain Lodge is conveniently located on the banks of Santeetlah Lake. Santeetlah covers 2,800 acres and is a manmade reservoir. The lake attracts water sports of all kinds. Enjoy Water skiing, swimming, canoeing, boating, and jet skiing. The Lodge can assist in making arrangements for you to rent pontoons, fishing boats, ski boats, and wave runners.

Whitewater

Whitewater activities are available on nearby Nantahala River. Activities include rafting, canoeing, and kayaking. A short drive takes you to whitewater adventures on the Ocoee River. Ocoee is the home of the 1996 Summer Olympic Whitewater Event.

Fishing

Fishing is a top choice for many visitors to the area. Your choice of fishing opportunities are numerous. Fishing on Santeetlah Lake on the Lodge property offers an exciting challenge to any angler. Nearby Nantahala River, Slick Rock Creek, and Snowbird Creek are fly fishing spots. Fishing licenses are required and are available online or local stores and marinas.

Hiking

Hundreds of miles of hiking trails originate just a short distance from the Lodge. Check out The Appalachian Trail to Cheoah Bald from Stecoah Gap (12.5 miles round trip). Wauchecha Bald Trail #47 (16.5 miles round trip). Bear Creek Trail (6.5 miles round trip). Check out The Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest, with its giant Hemlocks and Tulip Poplars over 500 years old. The forest is a short distance from the Lodge. Many of the trees you will see on the Forest’s hiking trails are over 20 feet in circumference and 150 feet tall.

Biking

Bring your bicycle and take a relaxing ride around Santeetlah Lake. Maybe try a more challenging adventure on the many trails throughout the area including world renowned Tsali Recreation Area. Enjoy all the magnificent scenery and cool climate the mountains offer. 

 

Golf

Mountain golf is played in the Highlands. This creates the stage for a great game of golf. This magnificent setting attracts golfers drawn by the scenic beauty and pleasant climate. The primary attractions to mountain golf are lush fairways, sprawling bent grass greens and cool breezes. Gently undulating terrain reminiscent of the Scottish Highlands greet you on the courses. Blue Waters Mountain Lodge can provide information for you to challenge some of the area’s most prestigious courses. Check out Cherokee Hills Golf and Country Club, Mountain Harbour Golf Course, Mill Creek Country Club and Smoky Mountain Country Club.

Horseback Riding

The area offers a variety of the finest Horseback riding trails. Travel through scenic vistas, and beautiful landscapes. The Lodge can provide information about guide services.

Sightseeing

Other area points of interest within ten miles of the Lodge: Chief Junaluska’ Grave, the Origination Point of the Trail of Tears. The town of Robbinsville (film location for much of the movie “Nell”). The scenic Cherohala Skyway between Robbinsville, North Carolina and Tellico Plains, Tennessee. A two-hour drive offers the Tennessee tourist destinations of Knoxville, Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge. Visit the Great Smoky Mountain National Park , the nation’s most visited park in the National Park System.
