Celebrate Earth Day with a Volunteer Vacation!

2010 will mark the 40th anniversary of the founding of Earth Day. Originally conceived by Senator Gaylord Nelson, the event was meant to remind us to stop and think about the amazing, yet fragile, planet on which we live, and possibly consider the ways that we can work to protect the environment around us. Today, that message is as important and relevant as ever, and Earth Day is celebrated across the globe in a number of cultures and countries.

This year, Earth Day falls on Thursday, April 22nd, and to celebrate Blue Waters Mountain Lodge, located on Lake Santeetlah, in the midst of the Nantahala National Forest is offering environmentally conscious travelers a chance to do their part to protect the environment while on a volunteer vacation. Volunteers can join the Nantahala Hiking Club in conjunction with the Appalachian Trail Conservancy  on Saturday, April 24th  for Appalachian Trail maintenance and clean up.

To show their appreciation for the efforts of the volunteers, Blue Waters Mountain Lodge is offering a discount for those who choose to stay with them. The Earth Day Volunteer Vacation deal allows guests who participate in the Appalachian Trail clean up to receive a 25% discount off of their stay for the weekend of April 23 through 25, 2010.

Blue Waters Mountain Lodge look forward to making this an annual tradition.  To further show their commitment to the environment, they are offering in a $15 gift certificate for anyone that arrives in or on a “green” vehicle during the last weekend in April, 2010. The gift certificates are redeemable in the lodge’s restaurant and gift shop, and is another reward for guests looking to further reduce their carbon footprint.

To take advantage of one of these deals by calling us at 888-828-3978.

Too Bad Punxsutawney Phil, Snowmageddon and Snowpocalypse!

Despite the freezing temperatures and the seemingly never-ending snow flurries, there are signs that the winter will not last forever and that spring is around the corner.

The first greens of daffodils have appeared around Blue Waters Mountain Lodge’s property and are peeping out from the frosty ground.   Being the first of the spring flowers, they are taking full advantage of the light that is available on the woodland floor before the foliage of the trees and shrubs develops later in the year and puts them in shade.

So for now, let us all keep our fingers crossed, nothing lasts forever, Spring is coming.

Lights, Camera….Action

Robbinsville has a history as a destination for Hollywood movies, with classics like The Fugitive and Nell starring Harrison Ford, Jodie Foster and Liam Neeson.  Now a new film is in pre-production.  Flight of the Cardinal will begin filming in early January 2010.

“Cardinal” is a psychological thriller shot entirely on location at Blue Waters Mountain Lodge on Lake Santeetlah in Robbinsville.  The script’s hero Grady Wilson, a self-exiled former actor and player battles for his sanity and life against a conniving young villain named Beetle.  Flight of the Cardinal addresses the philosophy that if a man is to be his best, he must first examine the worst. One enthusiastic critic described it as “Gaslight meets The Shining”.

Currently producers are finalizing the details and are seeking a handful of motivated and talented actors and crew members to join the production.

Mike Stewart, owner of Blue Waters Mountain Lodge said “It is a very exciting thing to have coming to town; Graham County’s beauty continues to attract national acclaim. “.
